2. Internship Funding — Isenberg OCS Programs
▼Isenberg’s Office of Career Success has launched three significant new internship programs to reduce financial barriers and expand access: the OCS Internship Fund, micro-internships via Parker Dewey, and the Nonprofit & Small Business Internship Program.
- Isenberg OCS Internship Fund — $1,000–$5,000 Awards
Financial awards of $1,000–$5,000 for undergraduate students who have secured summer internships but can’t afford to accept them without financial support. Alumni-funded. For students where financial pressure would otherwise prevent taking an unpaid or low-paid internship. Students with at least one internship on their resume are significantly more likely to secure full-time employment within three months of graduation. Contact Chase Career Center (careersuccess@isenberg.umass.edu) to apply.
- Nonprofit & Small Business Internship Program — $20/hr Equivalent
Isenberg partnerships with Amherst-area nonprofits and small businesses. 10-week summer internships, approximately 20 hours/week. With alumni donor stipend support, students can earn approximately $20/hour equivalent. Participating organizations include Cancer Connection, Community Legal Aid, Franklin County YMCA, Stone Soup Café, and Valley Community Development. Apply through Chase Career Center.
- Micro-Internships via Parker Dewey
Short-term (20–40 hour) paid professional projects matched by employer. Isenberg OCS partnered with Parker Dewey specifically to give sophomores and juniors more experiential opportunities earlier in their academic careers. Especially useful for students who want resume content before a formal internship search. Access via Chase Career Center or directly at parkerdewey.com.
- UMass Career Hub — Internship Credit for Academic Recognition
UMass students can earn up to 18 academic credits for internships over their degree. Fall and Spring credits are part of regular tuition. - Charles River Campus — Boston Internship Housing
UMass operates the Charles River Campus in Newton, MA (Boston area) specifically to provide affordable housing for students completing Boston-area internships and co-ops. This removes a major financial and logistical barrier for students who want to intern in Boston without paying Boston rent independently. Check the Career Hub for current availability and application process.
