1. Ross Career Development Office — How It Works
▼The Ross CDO is one of the most well-staffed undergraduate career offices in the country: 31 full-time staff, 4 part-time alumni coaches, and 150 peer coaches. The model is explicitly built around three levels of support — professional coaches, peer coaches (recently through your exact recruiting process), and employer relations. Use all three.
- Book a CDO Advising Appointment
1:1 appointments with CDO professional coaches for résumé review, job-search planning, interview prep, and offer evaluation. Book via Handshake. Coaches are organized by degree program — BBA students have their own dedicated coaching team. Specify your target industry in the appointment request.
- Peer Coaching Program — 150 Peer Coaches
150 trained peer coaches who recently went through your exact recruiting process for your target industry and firm. Often more available and more candid than professional staff about specific firm cultures and interview expectations. Access via Handshake appointments. More useful for mock interviews and recruiting reality checks than general professional advising.
- CareerLeader Self-Assessment
Ross’s proprietary career exploration platform. Identifies your interests, motivators, and competencies and maps them to specific business careers. Best used in freshman or sophomore year before formal recruiting begins. All BBA students have access.
- BBA Coaching and Advising — Academic Track
Advisors, peer coaches, and career counselors are embedded in the BBA curriculum from the first year. Coaches help students at every stage: early career exploration, internship search, full-time recruiting, and offer evaluation. Career development begins at student orientation.
- University Career Center (UCC) — 515 E. Jefferson
University-wide career center available to all UM students including Ross students who want a second opinion or additional resources. Mon–Fri, 515 E. Jefferson St., Ann Arbor. Career tracks, employer challenges, and immersion experiences covering industries not well-represented in Ross-specific recruiting.
2. Ross Finance Clubs — Core Pipeline Organizations

Educational lecture series, an academic-year IB internship program, and direct career guidance from upperclassmen who recruited at bulge brackets and elite boutiques. 2025 placements included Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan, and others. Verified via Ross clubs directory.
- Apex Trading Group (ATG)
Premier trading and portfolio management undergraduate organization. Uses the Tozzi Center trading floor with real market infrastructure. Strong alumni base in trading, quantitative finance, and proprietary trading firms. Verified via Ross clubs directory.
3. APEX Consulting Group & Ross Consulting Infrastructure
▼APEX Consulting Group is award-winning and one of the most recognized pro-bono consulting organizations at any undergraduate business school. 130+ client engagements. If you want consulting experience before formal recruiting, APEX is the most direct path.
- APEX Consulting Group
Award-winning pro-bono consulting organization with 50 members, 100+ alumni, and 130+ client engagements with startups and nonprofits. Runs semester-long consulting projects, case prep sessions, and consulting treks. Strong MBB placement record. Semester-long client projects are the most compelling consulting experience available at Ross before recruiting. Verified via Ross clubs directory.
- Ross REAL — Action-Based Learning
Ross Experiences in Action-Based Learning: real stakes, real clients, real capital. Unlike simulations, REAL involves actual fund management, advising real organizations, and leading real business teams. Multiple REAL opportunities are integrated into the BBA curriculum. This is a genuine differentiator — consulting and finance recruiters value real client experience over coursework.
- Tozzi Electronic Business and Finance Center
Simulated trading floor with Bloomberg terminals, market data feeds, and a financial research center. Used for hands-on finance coursework and by MII, ATG, and AIC. Access through finance courses and clubs. One of the few undergraduate programs with a real trading floor available to students.

5. Résumé, Cover Letter & Interview Preparation
▼Ross’s career prep is embedded in the curriculum from year one. BA 200 (core course) includes formal résumé creation and career foundations. The peer coaching network is the strongest practical resource for industry-specific résumé and interview feedback.
- BA 200 Core Course — Résumé & Career Foundations
Required BBA core course. Includes formal résumé creation, CDO-reviewed résumé feedback, and career planning. Résumé feedback from CDO professionals is built directly into the curriculum. Use this as your launch point — your résumé should be submission-ready by the end of BA 200.
- CDO Résumé Review (Professional Staff)
Book a 1:1 résumé review with a CDO coach via Handshake. Specify your target industry — a finance résumé for Goldman Sachs looks different from a consulting résumé for McKinsey or a marketing résumé for P&G.
- Peer Coach Résumé Review
Access via Handshake appointments. Finance peer coaches who recently recruited at your target firm are more valuable for firm-specific résumé feedback than professional staff. They know what Goldman, McKinsey, Amazon, and other top firms actually want to see.
- Mock Interviews — CDO Professional Staff
Book behavioral, technical, and case mock interviews via Handshake. Coaches provide written feedback you can act on. Best for final preparation before actual interviews.
- Vault Career Intelligence (via UM Library)
Free access via UM Library. Firm-specific interview guides, insider advice, and industry overviews for Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, Google, Amazon, and hundreds of others. Log in with UM credentials. One of the most specific interview prep resources available.
6. Networking, Career Fairs & Employer Connections
▼Hundreds of companies recruit at Ross each year. Employer events (company presentations, networking receptions, interviewer-in-residence sessions) are as important as career fairs — these are relationship-building events where recruiter attendance is tracked.
- Fall Career Fair (Annual — October)
90+ employer partners. 2,000+ student connections. Register via Handshake. Arrive with tailored résumés for each employer — recruiters notice generic résumés. The UCC page lists all upcoming fairs across campus.
- Ross On-Campus Recruiting & Employer Presentations
Company info sessions, firm-hosted dinners, and recruiter-in-residence sessions throughout fall and winter. These are relationship events — attendance is tracked by firms. Attending an info session before applying to the same firm’s job posting meaningfully improves outcomes.

Weekly brown bag (internal) and external seminar series bringing leading finance practitioners to campus. Real network-building opportunity with industry professionals. These are not just career events — they are genuine intellectual engagements with people who hire.

Heather Byrne — Managing Director, Career Development Office (hbyrne@umich.edu)
Ross’s CDO is one of the most resourced undergraduate career offices in the country. The peer coaching network is its most underused asset — 150 peers who went through your exact recruiting cycle are more valuable than any online prep platform. Join MIBC or MII in your first semester, engage with BA 200’s career curriculum, and treat every employer info session as a relationship-building opportunity. Go Blue.
