  The 19th Annual Research Park Intern Awards Ceremony took place July 24, 2025, celebrating outstanding student interns across Research Park companies. Categories: Best Startup Intern, Best Technical Innovation, Best Business Innovation, Most Outstanding Graduate Student Intern, Most Outstanding Undergraduate Student Intern, Most Competent and Collaborative Team. Highlights from 2025 included an intern who developed an in-house model saving their company $60,000, and a group who developed XR prototypes deployed in tech centers across three countries. • Undergraduate Research Symposium — Annual April Showcase

  UIUC’s annual campus-wide research showcase where undergraduates present research across all disciplines through exhibitions, presentations, and performances. The 2026 Symposium was held April 30, 2026. Undergraduate Research Week surrounds the symposium (April 26–May 2, 2026). Presenting at the symposium is a strong credential for graduate school applications and signals deep scholarly engagement. Any undergraduate conducting supervised research is eligible to present.

• Career Fairs at Illinois — Multiple Per Semester

  UIUC holds dozens of career fairs across fall and spring — some by The Career Center, others by individual colleges. All are posted in Handshake’s Events calendar with employer booklets. Most are open to students of all majors and class levels. The Career Center offers preparation workshops for career fairs each semester. Hundreds of employers attend UIUC fairs annually across engineering, business, STEM, and liberal arts fields.

  Annual fair drawing 100+ graduate and professional programs from across the country and 700–1,000 motivated Illinois students. Open to all students from all 11 academic colleges and 150+ majors. • Research Park Intern Awards Ceremony — Annual July

  The 19th Annual Research Park Intern Awards Ceremony took place July 24, 2025, celebrating outstanding student interns across Research Park companies. Categories: Best Startup Intern, Best Technical Innovation, Best Business Innovation, Most Outstanding Graduate Student Intern, Most Outstanding Undergraduate Student Intern, Most Competent and Collaborative Team. Highlights from 2025 included an intern who developed an in-house model saving their company $60,000, and a group who developed XR prototypes deployed in tech centers across three countries. Context: the scale and quality of Research Park internship work is real and recognized.

The Illini Union’s Office of Registered Organizations is the administrative body. Quad Day — held in August/early September — is where all RSOs table simultaneously. Membership in all RSOs must be open to all students without regard to race, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or sexual orientation — these standards supersede any national organization guidelines. The Illinois Research Park is one of the most distinctive career assets of any public university in the country. 120+ companies on or near campus means UIUC students can intern at Caterpillar, Rivian, Abbott, or dozens of startups while attending class — fall, spring, and summer. • Block Party — Annual Fall Networking Event

  The single most important Research Park networking event for students. 1,500+ students attended in 2025 in an informal outdoor setting at South First Street and Saint Mary’s Road. Food provided. Format is conversational — not a formal career fair, so lower pressure and higher quality interactions. Companies bring representatives from their UIUC research centers specifically to meet students. • Technology Entrepreneur Center (TEC) at Research Park

  The Technology Entrepreneur Center is located within the Research Park and supports student entrepreneurs and startup founders. Connects to Illinois Founders RSO for student access. If you’re building a startup or interested in the venture ecosystem around UIUC, TEC provides space, mentorship, and connections to investors in the Research Park community.

This section is UIUC-specific. UIUC is a major research university with a rich undergraduate research infrastructure managed by the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR). The Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP) is the most accessible entry point for students with no prior research experience. The First-Gen Scholars Research Program provides paid research specifically for first-generation work-study students.

  OUR supports undergraduates across all disciplines in finding, conducting, and showcasing research.   URAP is OUR’s entry-level research program pairing undergraduates with little or no research experience with advanced graduate student mentors. One-on-one mentoring allows students to understand what research means — the process, norms, and daily reality — before committing to a faculty-led research project. A genuine first step that doesn’t require you to already know what you want to study or whether research is right for you.

• First-Gen Scholars Research Program (FSRP) — Paid Research for First-Gen Students

  Funded by the Office of the Provost, FSRP offers first-generation college students eligible for federal work-study the opportunity to participate in meaningful, high-impact research — paid. Specifically designed to increase access to research experiences for underrepresented students who might otherwise prioritize paid employment over unpaid research. • Undergraduate Research Certificate — Credential for Sustained Research

  Provides undergraduates who have completed a significant amount of research experience at UIUC with a recognized credential to present to employers and graduate schools. The certificate demonstrates sustained scholarly engagement rather than a single research project. • Undergraduate Research Symposium — Annual April Showcase

  UIUC’s annual campus-wide research showcase where undergraduates present research across all disciplines through exhibitions, presentations, and performances. The 2026 Symposium was held April 30, 2026. Undergraduate Research Week surrounds the symposium (April 26–May 2, 2026). Presenting at the symposium is a strong credential for graduate school applications and signals deep scholarly engagement. Any undergraduate conducting supervised research is eligible to present.

• Career Center — Undergraduate Research as Career Development

  The Career Center explicitly connects undergraduate research to career development: research provides analytical problem-solving skills, the ability to generate new knowledge, technical expertise, and mentorship relationships that are highly valued in both academic and non-academic careers. The Career Center lists the Undergraduate Research Certificate (managed by OUR) as one of the added credentials students can present to employers and graduate schools.

  The Career Center’s dedicated pre-health advisers support medical, dental, pharmacy, PA, nursing, and other health professions school applicants from initial exploration through application submission.
