9,642 UT alumni in NYC; 3,311 are McCombs alumni. The NYC leadership program strengthens McCombs’ network in investment banking, PE, asset management, real estate, and marketing. Active alumni community for current students to tap for networking and recruiting.
1. BBA Career Management — How the System Works

Your first McCombs course is taught by a career coaching professional and covers career exploration, employer trends, and interview foundations. The BBA Career Management team provides both professional coaches and peer coaches throughout your four years.

Trained peer coaches who recently navigated McCombs recruiting for your target industry. More available and often more specific than professional coaches about what firms actually want. Use peer coaches for a first pass before booking a professional coach appointment.
- BBA Career Course — Embedded in Curriculum
One of your first McCombs courses is taught by a career coaching professional. Covers career exploration, employer trends, in-demand skills, résumé writing, cover letters, and foundational interview preparation. Every BBA student goes through this — use it seriously.
- McCombs Success Scholars (MSS) — First-Gen & High-Need Students
Program selecting 130–140 incoming McCombs students with high financial need or first-gen status. Provides peer mentors, workshops, and NYC May term visiting Blackstone, Morgan Stanley, and Apollo. Corporate sponsors: Deloitte, PwC, IBM. MSS students who engaged with the program obtained internships as first-years. Apply in your admission process.
- UT Career Success — All-UT Career Hub
University-wide career center for all UT Austin students regardless of college. Internship courses, career coaching, HireUTexas job board, Big Interview platform, and graduate school resources. If you are a Liberal Arts or Engineering student, this is your primary career center alongside college-specific resources.
2. Wall Street for McCombs — The Finance Pipeline
▼Wall Street for McCombs (WSFM) is the single most important finance program at McCombs for students targeting investment banking and buy-side roles. It is highly selective, directly mentored by Xavier Sztejnberg (former Lazard/Morgan Stanley/Blackstone MD), and has produced extraordinary placement results.
- Wall Street for McCombs (WSFM) — Main Program
Highly selective mentoring program for careers in financial services and alternative asset management. 600+ students and alumni. Founded and directed by Xavier Sztejnberg. 85%+ of members placed in NYC. BB/EB placement has been strong for multiple consecutive recruiting cycles. Morgan Stanley, Evercore, Moelis, Goldman, JPMorgan, and buyside placements. The single most impactful finance program at McCombs.
- Finance Launchpad — WSFM Entry Preparation
McCombs Academy program teaching foundational valuation and decision-making frameworks needed for WSFM and finance recruiting interviews. Compressed, focused specifically on core valuation and capital markets concepts. Open to students from any university and any major. Free program — take it before applying to WSFM. Not a pre-requisite for WSFM but strong preparation.
- Investment Banking Accelerator — August Pre-Semester
In-person 32-hour program at McCombs August 18–22, 2025 (week before Fall semester). Taught by Xavier Sztejnberg. Covers real-world IB concepts and actual interview questions. $2,500 fee (financial support available). Not a pre-requisite for WSFM. For students who want intensive pre-semester IB preparation. - Investment Banking Association (IBA)
Second-most important finance club after WSFM. Highly overlap with WSFM membership. More location-agnostic than WSFM (which is heavily NYC-focused). IBA members also land at top BB/EB firms. Both WSFM and IBA have ~20% acceptance rates. Knowing technicals cold before interviews is required. - New York for McCombs — Alumni NYC Network
9,642 UT alumni in NYC; 3,311 McCombs alumni. Created in 2013 as Wall Street for McCombs to build an IB pipeline; broadened in 2017 to include PE, asset management, real estate, accounting, and marketing. 3. Finance Feeder Clubs — Freshman & Sophomore Entry

The clubs below are specifically designed for freshman and early sophomore engagement — they provide technical training, mentorship pairing, and the recruiting foundation needed to compete for WSFM/IBA. - Herb Kelleher Center for Entrepreneurship
McCombs houses the Herb Kelleher Center for Entrepreneurship. Supports an Entrepreneur-in-Residence Program for students seeking advice on launching ventures, plus a speaker series featuring serial entrepreneurs. Austin’s startup ecosystem (Dell, Apple, Tesla HQ, and hundreds of growth-stage companies) makes this a genuine career pathway for McCombs students.
